Steve Boyd’s Rum Reverie

With New Orleans swagger, a large cup of soul, a spoonful of blues, and a dash of jazz noir, Steve Boyd’s Rum Reverie hoots and hollers with all its might. Imagine Tom Waits meeting Hound Dog Taylor in Bourbon St, New Orleans and you’re getting close. The sound is heartfelt and raw, the influences primal and instinctive; perhaps not schooled, and certainly not slick.

Conceived over many nights of shared musings, quaffing of wine, and listening to old vinyl records, the Rum Reverie is the brainchild of life-long friends and former Steve Boyd & The Preachers bandmates Paul Fiddes on drums, and Steve Boyd on lead vocals and guitar – augmented by upright bass, brass, and Hammond organ.

Debut EP Healers and Howlers was a finalist in The Age Music Victoria Music Awards ‘Best Blues Album’ category, and their first full-length album Hoodoo Hipshake will officially be launched 28th April 2018 at The Spotted Mallard, Melbourne, following performances at Blues at The Briars Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Docklands Blues Festival, and a monthly residency at Melbourne’s iconic Cherry Bar.

With a punk brain, a gospel soul, a blues heart, and hints of jazz coursing through its veins, Steve Boyd’s Rum Reverie may be something of a musical Frankenstein – this is a monster, however, that promises to hoot, holler, growl and grind with all its might.

A bit about SHBC

An overview of the club and what it does

Community Is Important

SHBC is more than a monthly blues get together. We are interested in and look to support the community of Geelong and the Western District. Our recent "Blues for Blankets" saw us raise money to assist the homeless in our region and our annual Vic Hunt Memorial Grant (more blues focused) provides a non-professional musicians and songwriters (of all ages) from our region with a $1,000 investment in their careers. SHBC is always looking for new projects to support.
